TongueThere are a few simple steps you can take to help your new tongue piercing heal up nicely. It is essential you stick to these rules as the risk of infection is much higher if you fail to do these things.

You must notice what you are eating in the first few days after you have your piercing done. Avoid hot and spicy foods that may cause irritation to the wound – instead stick with liquid foods such as soups and mashed food which are easier to digest and less likely to get caught in your piercing.

You also must take car of your oral hygiene, always rinse out with an anti-bacterial mouthwash after you have eaten and in the morning and evening. Alternatively a saline solution (household salt mixed with water) can be gargled, the salt water helps heal the wounds and speeds up the whole healing process.

Finally, however tempting it may be, do not fiddle with or change your body jewellery. This will only inflame your new piercing and take longer to heal. Wait until it is ready and then you can change your tongue piercing without any troubles.
